Fractal Design Day, Meet The Torrent Compact

Compact Or Not, It Will Fit A Full E-ATX Motherboard

Today marks two new releases, the Fractal Design Torrent Compact and Torrent Nano.  You can check out the Nano below, or take a look at Sebastian’s review which, if it isn’t already, will be up momentarily.  If you prefer a case that can hold a full E-ATX mobo, but remains relatively small, at 450 x 222 x 467 mm (17.7×8.7×18.4″) then it is the Torrent Compact you might be interested in.

According to TechPowerUp the Torrent Compact is a mix of compromises, neither offering the space of the full sized Torrent nor the specific design decisions made in the mITX Nano version.  For instance, installing fans on the bottom will essentially limit you to a mATX motherboard, and the space between the backplate and smoky glass side is inconveniently tight when running wiring through it.

On the other hand, it can fit five internal drives, four 240mm fans plus a 120mm or seven 120mm fans, or their watercooling equivalent, not to mention a GPU of 330 mm (13″) … if you can find one to install that is.  The Nano is far more limited in these capabilities, but also doesn’t make you sacrifice one component to be able to install another.  Check out the full review.

As a bonus. TechPowerUp also included a review of the Fractal Design Lumen S36 AIO which was sent to them along with the case.
